Someone once commented, "You Mennonite girls sure can cook," and though blogger Lovella Schellenberg smiled at the generalization of Mennonite cooking abilities and heritage, the name stuck. And so, in June 2008, Lovella and nine other women created a blog called Mennonite Girls Can Cook.

They opened their overstuffed recipe boxes and carefully documented the traditional recipes that their Mennonite grandmothers had memorized or sometimes just quickly jotted down without accurate measurements or detailed methods. They lovingly prepared dishes from traditional to exotic, and honed their photography skills to showcase each dish for readers.

Today the Mennonite Girls Can Cook blog attracts nearly 7,000 readers per day—with readers coming back again and again to this blog that puts hospitality ahead of entertaining, and blessing ahead of impressing.
